About the Florida Family Caregiver Program (SB 1156)

Florida’s new Family Caregiver Program, established through Senate Bill 1156, allows family members—such as parents or legal guardians—to be trained, certified, and paid to care for their medically complex child at home. If your child qualifies for Private Duty Nursing (PDN) through Medicaid, you may now be eligible to become their paid caregiver.

This innovative model mirrors successful programs in Colorado (Family CNA) and Arizona (Family LHA), which have helped thousands of families receive the support and financial stability they deserve. Team Select has been a pioneer in these programs and is excited to help families across the beautiful state of Florida.

How Do I Get Trained to Become a Paid Caregiver in Florida?

Under SB 1156, family members must complete the required caregiver training before they can begin receiving Medicaid reimbursement. Team Select will provide this training for you at no cost.

Training includes:

  1. Core competency modules on home care
  2. Emergency preparedness and basic nursing skills
  3. Pediatric-specific training based on your child’s condition
  4. Certification through an approved provider (we’ll connect you)

Training hours may vary depending on your experience and care responsibilities.
