Current Problem in Texas

Texas families whose medically fragile children qualify for Private Duty Nursing and Pediatric Therapy are struggling to receive the services they need. The nursing shortage crisis and lower than hospital market wages for nurses and therapists have created an access-to-care barrier. With consistent staffing these children can live with their families while receiving critical medical care in their homes.

What Does It Mean to Be Medically Fragile?

"Fragile Kids" are children with medical complexity that is defined as having multiple significant chronic health problems that affect multiple organ systems and result in functional limitations, high health care need or utilization, and often the need for or use of medical technology.

About 40% of parents with children who have disabilities quit their jobs to provide full-time care, while the remaining 60% adjust their work schedules to manage their child's care.

In August, Bill Sczepanski, the Vice President of Government Relations at Team Select secured a spot on the Texas Association for Home Care & Hospice Board of Directors!

Serving as a board member, Bill will continue to advocate for accessible home care and therapy for medically complex children.

"I have been a member of TAHCH since 2019 and have served as both Vice-Chair and Chair of the Pediatric Committee. In 2023, I, along with other members of TAHCH, secured the first PDN rate increase in over 30 years from the Texas Legislature!"
