Mobile Physical Therapy is a Convenient Option

Physical therapists are licensed and trained to evaluate and treat physical dysfunctions related to an injury, disease, disability, or similar health condition. The goal of the therapy is to restore and maintain proper physical function and mobility, allowing the patient the ability to (hopefully) resume the physical activities he/she was involved with prior to developing the health challenge being treated. In recent years, mobile physical therapy is becoming a popular option for patients in need of therapy.

There are wide ranges of health conditions that can be treated effectively with physical therapy. These include:

  • Whiplash
  • Neck Strains
  • Back Pain
  • Shoulder Conditions
  • Elbow Conditions
  • Knee Conditions
  • Hip Conditions
  • Leg Conditions
  • Foot Conditions
  • Spinal Injuries
  • Sciatica
  • Joint Conditions
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Arthritis
  • Bursitis
  • Strokes
  • Parkinson’s Disease

Physical therapy is often prescribed as a post-surgical treatment to help patients recover following surgery. In addition, PT is sometimes used in conjunction with other non-surgical treatments to improve certain health conditions without the need for a major medical procedure.

What is Mobile Physical Therapy?

In the past, patients in need of physical therapy would come to a hospital or clinic for appointments with the therapist. Today, a new option is emerging called mobile physical therapy. With mobile therapy, a therapist, typically employed by or contracted through a home health agency, visits the patient at his/her home or office to perform the therapy sessions.

Many patients prefer mobile physical therapy because of the advantages offered by this option. For example, when a therapist comes to your home, they are able to give you personalized attention without having to deal with multiple patients and other types of distractions that are typical in a clinical environment. The therapist is also able to evaluate your surroundings and eliminate any hazards or other potential barriers to a smooth recovery.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of mobile physical therapy is convenience. For starters, scheduling a home or office visit from the therapist is typically much easier than getting an appointment at a clinic. In addition, because the therapist comes to the patient, the patient saves time and money traveling to and from the clinic. This is important not only for the comfort of the patient but also for the success of the treatment plan.

When patients are recovering from an injury or treating an ongoing condition, momentum and consistency are critical. In other words, it is essential that the patient keep up with the exercises. Otherwise, they will not get the most out of the treatment plan. The patient also needs to keep his/her appointments, because these are the times when the therapist evaluates the progress of the treatment, makes adjustments, and often adds new exercises to build strength.

When you have an ongoing health condition, it can be unpredictable. There are days when you feel okay, and other days when you feel like not moving at all. What if you have a therapy appointment on one of your poorer days? These are the days when you need the therapist the most, but you may not be up for traveling to the clinic. This is where mobile physical therapy can provide a lifeline.

When the therapist comes to you, there is no more worry or stress about how you will feel the day of your appointment. You just wait for the therapist to arrive, and proceed with your session. This vastly reduces missed appointments and puts you on the road to a faster recovery.
