COVID-19 Patient and Family Safety Information

What do You Need to Know?

  • This is a rapidly evolving situation that will need to be monitored.
  • Be assured that we will maintain the privacy and confidentiality of those who test positive or be a part of a contact investigation.
  • Public health emergencies can lead to social stigma toward a people, place or thing (people who have traveled, healthcare professionals or a particular ethnicity associated with the disease). Stop stigma by being educated!

How Does Covid-19 Spread?

The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person:

  • Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
  • Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
  • These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
  • People are thought to be the most contagious when they are the most symptomatic (the sickest).
  • It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus.

What Are The Symptoms?

2-14 days after exposure

  • Fever: Age 65 or older 99.6 degrees or higher / Under age 65, 100.4 degrees or higher
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • Please contact your doctor from your home.

Should You Let Healthcare providers Into Your Home?

  • Healthcare providers are licensed and trained professionals who understand how to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) if applicable for an individual patient.
  • Licensed professionals are screened daily and in turn screen their patients prior to visiting.
  • Licensed professionals provide necessary assessments to patients and can identify symptoms of the virus.

What to do if you are sick?

  • Stay home and away from other people in your home.
  • Avoid public areas and transportation.
  • There is not enough information about pets. Please keep distance from your pets to be safe.
  • Contact your doctor or call ahead before visiting for instructions on testing and/or a clinic visit.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes and dispose of used tissues in a lined trash can.
  • Wash hands frequently for 20 seconds using soap and water or 60% or above alcohol hand sanitizer.
  • Practice social distancing (the more social distancing occurs, the faster the epidemic will peak).
  • Clean high-touch areas daily. Follow disinfectant label instructions.
  • Seek medical attention if your symptoms get worse: trouble breathing, temperature increases.

What is proper handwashing technique?

  1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

  • Notify your nurse/therapist of any travel before you leave.
  • Check the CDC travel site for restrictions. In some cases other countries may quarantine you 14 days BEFORE entering the country and the USA may quarantine you BEFORE coming back into the USA:
